JOHN VARVATOS CELEBRATES 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Fall 2010
---For immediate release
June 2, 2010 –John Varvatos, the brand, is synonymous with a lifestyle, a rock ’n’ roll sensibility and clothing, where a new school attitude meets an old school grace. This year John Varvatos and the Varvatos family celebrate 10 years and the man behind the brand has proven in a decade that he can do what only a handful of others have accomplished over many. The 10 year anniversary ad campaign which will be released this Fall reflects just that; a collage of musicians and artists from Iggy Pop to ZZ Top that make up the John Varvatos family portrait. Varvatos says, as he reflects, “We have lived through 9/11, international strife of great magnitude, global financial crisis and the explosion of digital technology. My company has come out stronger, more alive and more open to change. I am most proud of my team and their accomplishments in helping us become one of the top designer brands in the world.”
It was after successful careers at Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein, where he was head of menswear design for both companies that John Varvatos decided to go out on his own. He launched his line with a Fall 2000 runway collection to much acclaim and instant success. The collection brought a contemporary sensibility to classic menswear, where historically there was no blend of the two. The quality fabrics and exquisitely tailored cuts displayed a confidence and elegance that was unparalleled in a new line. John Varvatos made his mark as a designer who could draw inspiration from the past, repurpose these ideas into something entirely new and use his passion for music to give his clothes an edge.

Crazy 8 will make a donation of $30,000 to support the Foundation and its work to ensure that no child be deprived of the opportunity to participate in instrumental music education programs.
Crazy 8 will kick off the back to school shopping season with an exciting online sweepstakes in celebration of music education for all students. Beginning July 27, 2010 and continuing through August 29, 2010, the brand will promote the chance to win one of 8 prize packages that includes a $1,000 back to school shopping gift card, plus a kid’s electric Squier® by Fender® guitar and a rocker accessories kit valued at over $300 dollars.
This October, the Crazy 8 partnership will culminate with an in school instrument delivery event and check presentation in Nashville, TN. Since 1999, the VH1 Save The Music Foundation has worked with the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools to benefit students. To date, the Foundation has granted more than $950,000 worth of new musical instruments to 36 schools in Nashville. Crazy 8’s donation of $30,000 will maximize the VH1 Save The Music Foundation’s effort to restore instrumental music education programs in public schools.
“We are so pleased to partner with Crazy 8. It is important for people to recognize the central role music education has in a student’s life and thanks to the generosity of Gymboree and the Crazy 8 brand we are one step closer to ensuring that no child goes without music education,” says Paul Cothran, Executive Director of the VH1’S Save The Music Foundation.

DoSomething.org and the VH1 Save The Music Foundation’s ‘Battle of the Bands’ campaign activates teens and celebrity advocates to save music education programs
New York, NY (May 4, 2010) –DoSomething.org and the VH1 Save The Music Foundation announce today the winners of their ‘Battle of the Bands’ campaign, which mobilized over 6,000 teens nationwide in the fight to keep music education in schools. Launched with spokesperson Nick Jonas, the campaign encouraged teens to submit videos to DoSomething.org about the importance of music in their lives.
Nick Jonas was joined by other celebrity advocates including Death Cab for Cutie, Kristen Bell, BJ Novak, Kat Deluna, and America’s Best Dance Crew champions the Jabbawockeez, to share their stories about why music education matters and encourage participation.
A panel of expert judges including musician Vanessa Carlton and music industry representatives from VH1, EMI Music, CBS Radio, and Rolling Stone magazine evaluated the bands based on creativity, strength of argument, and overall participation to determine the winners.
"I feel honored to have been asked to participate,” explains Vanessa Carlton. “It was amazing to see such young people plugged in to the necessity of art. This campaign goes to show that if you are a passionate student, you can start to change the outside world from inside your classroom. I raise my glass to the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, DoSomething.org, and to everyone who participated in Battle of the Bands."
DoSomething.org and the VH1 Save The Music Foundation will present the ‘Battle of the Bands’ video submissions to Senators and members of Congress at events on the Hill in May and June 2010.
